Indigo Secrets

Indigo Secrets, a story about an eighteenth century Gaelic speaking Scottish immigrant family, follows 12 year old Mairead as she travels with her parents and brother, Lachie, from Loch Broom, Scotland, to Pictou, Nova Scotia, in the ship Hector. Her dreams are soon dashed as she suffers the death of family members, spends the first winter huddled in a primitive shelter, and experiences hunger in the new world. The story in manuscript covers seven years and sees Mairead fall in love, help carve out a home in the wilderness, and fulfill her dream of making an indigo dyed gown.
