Natural Dyeing

Madder dyed yarn

Cynthia has been dyeing with natural dyes since 1976. Her favorite is indigo which she has been growing in the garden for many years. She dyes silk, cotton, and wool using urine as both pH altering and reducing agent.

She also dyes with lots of other plants that she grows or finds growing wild around the area.

For many years, she has been sending indigo seeds (Polygonum tinctorium) all over the world so that other dyers can grow their own. If you want some seed, contact her and she’ll be glad to help you.
